Specifically, Mr C complained that there was a failure by the Practice in April and May 2023 to identify that Mrs D was at risk of deep vein thrombosis (“DVT” – a blood clot that develops within a deep vein in the body) and to take appropriate action.
The investigation found that the care provided to Mrs D was appropriate and in line with clinical standards. There were no signs, symptoms or mention of DVT which should have prompted action or consideration of Mrs D’s previous history of venous insufficiency (where veins in the leg are damaged and do not work as efficiently as they should). The Ombudsman did not uphold this complaint.
