HM Government
Accepted
The Government accepts this recommendation. We recognise the importance of ensuring that teachers have the knowledge and understanding to embed careers into the curriculum effectively. We are committed to supporting teachers to develop their knowledge of career pathways and the labour market, and to embed careers into the curriculum. The Department for Education’s ITT Core Content Framework (CCF) sets out the minimum entitlement for all trainee teachers, including how to teach pupils to reflect on their own aspirations. The Early Career Framework (ECF) builds on this to support early career teachers to develop their knowledge and skills. We will review the ITT CCF and ECF to consider how careers education could be better incorporated into these frameworks. We will also consider how careers education could be incorporated into National Professional Qualifications (NPQs) and Continuing Professional Development (CPD) for teachers. We will engage with relevant stakeholders, including teacher training providers, schools, colleges, and the wider careers sector, to consider how best to incorporate careers education into different levels of teacher training, including for primary school teachers. We will set out further detail in the Strategic Action Plan for Careers, which we will publish in 2024. This will include findings following stakeholder discussions on the best way to implement the Committee’s recommendations and set timeframes for doing so.
