Conclusion (the committee's words)
The integrity of official statistics is underpinned by the independence of their production. International experience demonstrates the potential consequences of that statistical independence being undermined. Politically compromised statistics can have real economic consequences, including higher borrowing costs, policy errors and lasting reputational damage. (Conclusion, Paragraph 91)
