Full decision

Mr A complained that Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board failed to answer his concerns about if his diagnosis of Deep Vein Thrombosis (“DVT”) and its lifetime medication could have been avoided if a DVT risk assessment had been carried out and if he had been provided information about its risks and symptoms.

The Ombudsman found that whilst the Health Board responded to Mr A’s complaint, it failed to respond to his questions of whether or not the diagnosis could have been avoided if he had been provided with relevant information. This caused additional frustration and uncertainty for Mr A. The Ombudsman decided to settle the complaint without an investigation.

The Ombudsman sought and gained the Health Board’s agreement to write to Mr A, within 6 weeks, to answer the outstanding concerns.
