Full decision

Mrs X complained about several aspects of the standard of care provided to her mother, whilst she was an inpatient at Royal Glamorgan Hospital in 2022. The Ombudsman‘s view was that the Health Board had responded to the concerns raised and therefore investigation was not warranted. However, she noted that Mrs X had referred to an uncertainty about the diagnosis in 2021 which had not been covered in the complaint response.

The Health Board therefore agreed to provide a further formal written explanation to Mrs X, explaining the clinical situation, and any discrepancy, concerning the cancer diagnosis (specifically as indicated in the GP records in 2021). It agreed to do this within 4 weeks of the date of this decision.
