HM Government

The Government accepts this recommendation. The Department for Education’s Education Investment Areas (EIAs) are a key element of the Levelling Up agenda. The 55 EIAs are areas where school outcomes are weakest, and we are working with local leaders to transform outcomes for children and young people. The Education Investment Area programme is supporting schools in the most disadvantaged areas to help pupils to reach their full potential. This includes providing targeted support for the teaching of maths and English, increasing teacher retention and attendance. The Careers & Enterprise Company (CEC) has identified 38 Priority Education Investment Areas (PEIAs) from within the 55 EIAs where additional funding has been prioritised to improve careers provision. The CEC are using this additional funding to develop and pilot what works best to improve careers education in these areas. For example, this includes additional funding to support careers leaders in these areas to connect with local employers and training providers, and to provide opportunities for young people to experience the workplace. This includes specific additional support to primary schools in these areas. The CEC is working with local leaders in these areas to identify the most effective approaches to careers education and to share best practice across the country. The CEC is also evaluating the impact of these pilots to inform future policy and investment decisions. We will continue to evaluate the effectiveness of our investment and consider how we can further build a high-quality, sustainable careers system that supports all young people to progress.(...truncated...)
