Paragraph: 55
Provide one-off funding to schools failing Gatsby benchmarks to improve CEIAG provision.
Recommendation
To target those most in need of improvement, we recommend that the Department should make one-off developmental funding available to schools and colleges who 50 Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance have the lowest record of achieving the Gatsby benchmarks to support them to improve their CEIAG provision, setting out clear objectives and conditions of receiving this funding.
Government Response Summary
The government partially accepts, but states that its primary approach already involves the Careers & Enterprise Company (CEC) using data to identify and target additional support and resources, including specific funding, to schools and colleges with lower Gatsby Benchmark attainment.

HM Government
Accepted
The Government partially accepts this recommendation. We recognise the importance of providing targeted support to those schools and colleges most in need of improving their careers education provision. Our primary approach to supporting schools and colleges to improve their careers provision is through the Careers & Enterprise Company (CEC) infrastructure. The CEC works with 90% of secondary schools and colleges in England to support them to meet the Gatsby Benchmarks. The CEC uses data from the Compass+ digital tool to identify schools with lower Gatsby Benchmark attainment and targets additional support and resources to these schools and colleges. For example, during 2022/23 the CEC offered targeted support to 1,500 schools who identified as being most in need, for example those that had lower Gatsby Benchmark attainment. In 2023–24, the CEC has offered specific funding to Careers Hubs to enable them to address specific local needs and priorities, including supporting schools with lower Gatsby Benchmark attainment. This will deliver against key priorities including improving Gatsby Benchmark attainment in schools and colleges (including special schools, alternative provision settings and Pupil Referral Units (PRUs)) that are not yet meeting the Gatsby Benchmarks. This support is already targeted at those schools that have the lowest Gatsby Benchmark attainment. The funding will deliver against clear objectives for the Careers Hubs and the CEC will monitor how effectively the funding is used to improve Gatsby Benchmark attainment.(...truncated...)
