Publish annual updates on implementation of Strategic Defence Review (SDR) commitments
Recommendation
The Government should set out its plan for implementing the SDR. We recommend that the Government publishes an annual update on its implementation of the SDR commitments. In addition, we will continue to 57 seek regular classified updates on its progress against those commitments related to NATO and how it is improving the offer to personnel deployed to NATO. (Recommendation, Paragraph 35)

Following publication of the SSDR report on 2 June 2025, implementation began straight away. This is priority business, executed through a whole- of-Defence effort and driven through the reformed structures of Defence, with clear lines of accountability and streamlined processes to support delivery and improved efficiency. The DIP will ensure we can deliver the SDR’s vision. It will highlight how the Government’s historic investment in drive Defence as an engine for jobs and growth. In addition, we are happy to update the Committee on SDR implementation on a regular basis. personnel deployed to NATO. This includes working with Allies to unblock barriers to partner employment, trialling a new method to receive a financial contribution towards expenses that arise when personnel move to or from an overseas permanent assignment (Global Mobility Allowance) and providing contributions towards two return journeys home monthly for unaccompanied or single personnel assigned to specified European countries, but with homes in the UK (European Commuting Allowance). As evidenced by the private briefing to the Committee on 10 December 2025, we will be pleased to continue to provide regular classified updates to this Committee on SDR progress against those commitments relating to NATO.
