Recommendation
The Government should consider how to ensure that the end of these incentives is not coupled with a rise in emissions. With the end date of this scheme having been set since its inception, there should be every reason to provide clarity and certainty to industry about what may follow. The Government should urgently assess the impact of the scheme ending, both with regard to the possible loss of energy provided to the grid and to the potential rise in emissions from the waste sector. As part of this, the Government should assess the cost of continuing current incentives or instituting a replacement.
