Conclusion (the committee's words)
Several of our witnesses advocated the use of GWP* as an additional metric to GWP100 and moving towards a system of reporting using both metrics. GWP* aims to better represent the warming impact of greenhouse gases, accounting for their persistence in the atmosphere. However, we also heard concern from others about the weaknesses of GWP*, particularly when used at the level of individual sectors or businesses. There was no clear consensus, with the pioneers of GWP* acknowledging the metric’s limitations and the possibility that its use at the sectoral level would confuse as much as illuminate.
