Conclusion
We have heard that obtaining planning permission for energy storage facilities can be difficult and add significantly to timelines. It is not clear that the planning system has distinct guidance for energy storage facilities as opposed to energy generation. There currently is no regulatory licensing regime for the onshore storage of hydrogen, so developers need additional guidance from Government.
