Conclusion
It appears that the appointment of a new National Statistician will precede the appointment of a new permanent Chair of the UKSA. This means the appointment of the next National Statistician has been overseen by the interim Chair, and, while the role is split with the ONS Permanent Secretary, will have to ensure clear responsibilities and lines of accountability for both. That the Government has left responsibility for this in the hands of an interim appointment is regrettable. A permanent chair of the UKSA should be appointed as soon as possible.
