42. This Government is committed to protecting the UK against hostile activity from Iran. The UK has an established toolkit to deter and respond to a range of threats, including through the National Security Act and the Foreign Influence Registration Scheme (FIRS), under which Iran is designated in the ‘Enhanced Tier’. 43. The UK continues to take action to hold the Iranian regime to account; we have sanctioned 36 individuals and entities in relation to malign and destabilising Iranian activity. 44. The Government supports the Committee’s recommendation to draw on our existing capabilities as part of our response and recognises the well- established regional expertise within the FCDO Iran Unit. The Unit’s deep experience in Iranian tactics, techniques and procedures continues to prove vital in informing the Government’s wider approach to countering state threats.
