We cannot rely on private diagnoses to respond to these challenges, but in the short-term while we try to respond to the level demand, it seems inevitable that this will be part of the response. We urge the Scottish Government to bring forward national guidelines to ensure that there is consistency in assessments. With that consistency a private diagnosis should be more reliable, which should in turn open up the possibility of shared care agreements and access to life changing medication on the NHS.
