Full decision

Ms A complained that Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board had failed to provide her daughter with a joint Orthodontic and Restorative Dentistry appointment and treatment, since she was referred in 2021.

The Health Board explained that despite continuously advertising, the position of Restorative Consultant remains vacant. It explained alternative solutions that it had explored and confirmed that it had secured some temporary locum support. The Ombudsman decided to settle the complaint without an investigation.

The Ombudsman sought and gained the Health Board’s agreement within 2 weeks, to apologise to Ms A that she had to contact the Ombudsman, and to offer her daughter an appointment with the appropriate locum Consultant.
