Full decision

Mr A complained that the Health Board had failed to provide the injections required to treat his dystonia (a neurological condition which causes uncontrolled muscle contractions). He said that this resulted in him having to seek treatment privately during this time.

The Health Board accepted that there had been a period of time when it was unable to provide any service to dystonia patients due to specific staffing issues. The service was now operational and appointments had been arranged. The Health Board agreed to reimburse the cost of Mr A’s injections that fell within the period when it had been unable to provide any service.
