Full decision

Mr X complained about ongoing pain, following hernia repair surgery. He complained that he had been told different things by different surgeons within the Health Board and that he had not realised that ongoing pain might result from his original surgery.

The Health Board agreed to arrange for Mr X to be seen in its Pain Clinic, to investigate the source of his pain, and also to be seen by a a clinician at a neighbouring health board in order to obtain an independent opinion on whether he required further surgery. The Ombudsman considered this to be an appropriate settlement.
