Full decision

The Ombudsman's final decision

Summary: We will not investigate this complaint about damage caused to the complainant’s car as his repair costs have been met and there are not grounds for our further involvement.

The complaint

Mr X complained that the Council had not met his claim for repair costs after his car was damaged by a Council contractor.

The Ombudsman’s role and powers

It is our decision whether to start, and when to end an investigation into something the law allows us to investigate. (Local Government Act 1974, sections 24A(6) and 34B(8), as amended)

How I considered this complaint

I considered information provided by the complainant.

I considered the Ombudsman’s Assessment Code.

My assessment

After making his complaint, Mr X updated us to say the Council’s contractor had agreed to pay for the repairs to his car.

As such, there are not grounds for our further involvement, and we will not therefore investigate.

Final decision

We will not investigate Mr X’s complaint because it has been resolved.
