IN THE
INQUIRY INTO THE DEATH OF IAN POLLOCK
To: the Scottish Courts and Tribunals Service
1. WJ & AF Briggs (‘the partnership’) of Kilhenzie Farm, Kilhenzie
Castle, Auchenwynd, Dailly Road, Maybole, being a body to whom a
recommendation under section 26(1)(b) was addressed, do respond
as follows.
2. The partnership was a participant in the inquiry.
3. Recommendation - that the partnership keep accurate records that
its’ employees have the appropriate training in the operation of quad
bikes.
4. Response - the partnership have engaged the services of the Royal
Bank of Scotland Mentor Health & Safety Service which provides an
online system for the partnership to record their employees’ training
and qualifications and to access secure online document storage
where they upload and store employees’ training certificates. This
service enables the partnership to view all employees’ training and
qualifications easily and will alert them when refresher training is
required.
5. In addition, the partnership also maintains a file of physical copies of
all employees’ training records (including quad bike training
certificates) at their office at Kilhenzie Farm.
6. An employee must produce a physical copy of their quad bike
training certificate to be permitted to use the quad bike on the farm.
A copy of the certificate is taken and is filed at the office and
uploaded to the Mentor system at the same time.
7. The accuracy of employees’ health and safety training records is
overseen by the partner who manages the day to day activities of
the business.
