Conclusion
The Department should ensure that its work on developing the new English curriculum is considered through the lens of reading for pleasure, especially with regards to GCSE English Literature. It should consider removing content to allow teachers more time and flexibility to help pupils develop an enjoyment of reading and a deeper understanding of literature. (Recommendation, Paragraph 143)
