Conclusion
If reading is to provide children with both mirrors of their own worlds and windows into the lives of others, the curriculum must be designed to support this. It is unacceptable that, in 2023, only 1.5% of students had studied a text by a writer of colour at GCSE, and we do not understand why the Curriculum and Assessment Review failed to address this crucial issue.
