Conclusion (the committee's words)
The National Year of Reading is a welcome acknowledgement from the government of the importance of reading and has enabled a range of positive activities to take place, but there is little evidence that it has impacted the core work of the Department in terms of schools and early years. Without long-term prioritisation and appropriate investment, it risks becoming a one-off event with minimal lasting impact. (Conclusion, Paragraph 40)
