Recommendation 5

5 Accepted in Part Paragraph: 27

Careers and Enterprise Company achieving positive results but requiring full expansion of Careers Hubs.

Conclusion
The Careers and Enterprise Company appears to have made improvements over the past few years and is achieving positive results, particularly through the expansion of Careers Hubs. 90% of schools and colleges are now part of a Careers Hub: we would like to see this expanded to all schools and colleges as soon as possible to ensure consistency of provision across the country.
Government Response Summary
The government welcomes progress, stating 90% of schools are already in Careers Hubs and all will be offered the opportunity to join by 2024, with 95% expected to be part of the network. They will consider how to scale up this ambition to 100% as part of the Strategic Action Plan for Careers.

39. The Government welcomes the Committee’s recognition of the significant progress the CEC has made over the last few years in building a coherent national careers system. We agree that the CEC has had a transformational impact on the quality of careers education and we are committed to continuing to invest in CEC’s core functions. 40. We are delighted that the CEC has already exceeded the Government’s ambition that 90% of secondary schools and colleges would be part of the Careers Hub network by the end of 2024. As set out in the introduction, by June 2023, 90% of secondary schools, special schools and colleges were in a Careers Hub. We expect 95% of secondary schools and colleges to be part of the Careers Hub network and all will be offered the opportunity to join a Careers Hub by 2024. This will accelerate progress further. 41. We believe that the Careers Hub model is an effective way of ensuring consistency of provision and we will consider what more can be done to scale up this ambition as part of the Strategic Action Plan for Careers, including engaging with stakeholders to inform what a one-stop-shop, all-age careers system looks like. We will publish our Strategic Action Plan for Careers in 2024.
