Government Response Accepted
HM Government Accepted
The Government accepts this recommendation. We are committed to continuing to strengthen the careers system and will publish a Strategic Action Plan for Careers in 2024. This will set out our vision for the future of careers education, information, advice and guidance and how we will continue to build on the strong foundations we have already laid. The Strategic Action Plan will be developed in consultation with other Government Departments, including the Department for Work and Pensions, and relevant stakeholders, including the Careers & Enterprise Company, the National Careers Service, the Gatsby Charitable Foundation, employers, education providers and the wider careers sector. The Strategic Action Plan will include clear, measurable outcomes and dates by which these should be achieved. This will include targets for increasing the number of schools and colleges achieving the Gatsby Benchmarks in full, building on the significant progress that has already been made. We will also consider how we can best support schools and colleges to meet these targets, including through the provision of resources, training and networks. The Strategic Action Plan will be informed by the findings from Ofsted’s thematic review, due to report in autumn 2023, which will provide a snapshot of careers provision in schools and colleges and help to inform our priorities and ensure that we continue to base what we do on the very best practice.
