Inquiry scope (the committee's words)
The Lessons from the First World War Centenary inquiry will examine the impact of the commemorations that spanned four years, in particular the focus on arts and education initiatives over a more traditional approach that sought to connect a younger generation with the legacy of the War.

- On diversity (Recommendation 6), the Government "agrees with the Committee's recommendation" that future national commemorations should aim, "where possible", to engage with a range of different communities.
- On intergenerational work (Recommendation 3), it says it "agree[s]" that this "should be explored during the planning of any commemoration events of a similar nature".
- On teaching resources (Recommendation 2), DCMS is providing £100,000 for the IWM's Digital Legacy programme, and DCMS and the DfE "will work together to explore ways to inform schools and teachers about the portal".
- On digital preservation (Recommendation 11), DCMS is encouraging organisations to plan for preservation "where cost effective to do so", and the IWM digital portal is stated to launch in June 2020.
