The UK has an important role to play in deterring maritime subversion. The Royal Navy operates Astute-class submarines, capable of detecting underwater activity, and mine countermeasure vessels, which operate sub-surface systems. RAF maritime patrol aircraft can track surface and sub-surface vessels. 101
