Recommendation 1
1
The Arctic has traditionally been viewed as an area of high co-operation and low tension.
Conclusion
The Arctic has traditionally been viewed as an area of high co-operation and low tension. The UK’s long-term goal is for the region to return to this state. It is questionable whether this is achievable. As the region pivots from an area of co-operation to one of competition and potential confrontation, the UK Government needs to make sure its strategy reflects this new reality.
