Conclusion
The UK has sufficient funds to invest. UK pension funds in particular manage an abundance of capital that could help UK companies grow. Too little of this capital is invested in the UK. We welcome the Government’s efforts to build on the cross-party consensus to encourage pension fund consolidation. However, pension consolidation itself is not a panacea for driving greater investment into UK firms: it will not help UK firms if larger pension funds simply make bigger investments overseas, or park their assets in safe assets that do not contribute to growing the economy.
