We ask Ministers to consider whether the above recommendation, on closer working between the UK and allies in the EU and US, can be effectively delivered by requesting that the UK be invited to take part in relevant parts of the EU-US Trade and Technology Council. We further ask Ministers to set out the Government’s position on whether a new multi-lateral organisation for industrial collaboration between allied democratic countries is required and, if not, which existing multi-lateral organisation provides the opportunity for this important work to be undertaken.

The Integrated Review affirmed our deep commitment to multilateralism. Through the UK Semiconductor Strategy, we will pursue plurilateral co-operation to develop and implement a coordinated approach to supply chain resilience with like-minded nations, including at G7 in 2023, and the OECD. Improving semiconductor supply resilience will require measures that look to address the structural issues within the supply chain, including on transparency. 4 The Semiconductor industry in the UK: Further Government Response In addition to multilateral efforts, the UK will strengthen our existing bilateral relationships with allies and like-minded governments, including the UK-US Technology Partnership, UK-South Korea agreement on supply chain resilience, and UK-Japan Digital Partnership.
