Conclusion
We recognise that the UK’s independent sanctions regime is still a work in progress, but it appears, on balance, to have been effective overall in the context of the sanctions introduced following the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Without the need for agreement on unanimity, the UK can be nimbler and swifter in imposing sanctions.
