Conclusion
As noted in chapter 3, enhanced monitoring and verification of emissions at smaller scales not only improves the quality and accuracy of data for the UK’s National Inventory Report but also makes it possible to reward and encourage good practice in mitigating emissions by individual businesses or individuals. Other countries such as New Zealand have been exploring the possibility of applying enhanced monitoring to agriculture, recognising the benefits for the climate and individual farms and farmers. Though we note that policy measures in one country may not always be directly applicable to another, there may still be lessons to learn and options to explore.
