Conclusion
Standardisation is the use of modules, assemblies, components, methods or processes that are repeated throughout a project and from project to project. It was frequently highlighted in evidence as a method to improve the delivery of new towns. 150 We heard that certain elements of all new towns could be standardised, including energy performance requirements, 151 building code standards 152 and the basic design for affordable housing. 153 Mr Hopkins explained that through standardising components across multiple projects, such as the individual new towns, manufacturers and contractors would be able to scale up production, and have increased certainty over their pipeline. 154
