Despite the many challenges related to construction skills, Simon Rawlinson, Deputy Chair of the Construction Industry Council, remained optimistic that the new towns programme could provide a “particularly interesting opportunity to apply the new skill sets that the industry needs”. 111 Mr Mitchell said that it will demand a mix of all types of construction skills, including new skills associated with innovative methods. 112 We heard from Mr Rawlinson that new towns are an opportunity to develop a new multidisciplinary workforce which is well equipped to engage with the latest construction and manufacturing skills. 113
