Mr Mitchell told us that “there is no question that skills shortages are a real delivery risk for new towns”. 89 He added that the issue is not just the number of people entering the construction sector, but also achieving the right mix of trades, technical specialities and professional roles, all over the country. 90 We heard that skills shortages are more acute for certain roles, particularly for innovative and environmental sustainability specialities, which are expected to become more in demand. 91
