Conclusion
We heard how new towns could benefit from new technologies that will make the electricity supply more resilient. 73 Lawrence Slade, Chief Executive of the Energy Networks Association, mentioned the use of batteries at a community level as a way of making electricity supply more resilient. 74 New towns present an opportunity to design communities that exhibit resilience in multiple domains, from climate change to civil defence. 75 They should act as exemplars that will demonstrate best practice in resilient design, future-proofing developments for a century where essential supplies may become more vulnerable to shocks and shortages than at present.
