New towns will therefore compete with new and increased demand for electricity connectivity and supply.

Conclusion
New towns will therefore compete with new and increased demand for electricity connectivity and supply. While they are critical for economic growth, the rapid development of data centres presents a challenge to the utilities industries, as they have significant water and energy uses. 69 New towns are being strategically located in areas with potential for economic growth and regeneration, links to transport and ready supply of utilities. Yet these are also the areas that may be prioritised for any new industry and data centres. Competing demand for energy may create a challenge for such areas, potentially requiring better local energy planning, so that new infrastructure can be seamlessly connected to the Grid. 70
