Conclusion
We asked what progress had been made in identifying who would be prioritised in the next phase of the vaccine programme and whether those in key services, for example education, transport and those working in supermarkets, would be given priority. NHSE&I told us that, while these were decisions for Ministers and the Joint Committee, it thought that there was a strong case for asking the Joint Committee to consider specific groups, particularly teacher and other key workers, once the first priority groups had been vaccinated.51 The Department explained that, to support those decisions, it would be important to know more about the extent to which the vaccines stop the transmission of the virus, as well as the extent they stop people getting sick and how long protection from the vaccines lasts.52 Getting the vaccines to the right people at the right time
