Since the introduction of the Ministry of Defence Equipment Plan in 2012 the NAO has published a report each year examining MoD’s assessment of the Equipment Plan’s affordability and its response to the financial challenges it faces. Following the publication of the latest NAO report the Committee will question senior officials at the Ministry of Defence on whether the defence equipment programmes over the next ten years are credibly affordable, including whether they are based on realistic data and reasonable assumptions. The Committee will look at whether the Ministry has adequately managed the range of factors - including record inflation - that could affect the Plan’s affordability.
