Conclusion
Our inquiry did not focus on the potential effects of AI on the justice system, but witnesses raised some very concerning issues which merit detailed consideration, and might require specific measures going beyond the scope of this inquiry. The system is already under great strain. We note the Justice Select Committee has also recently discussed with ministers the use of AI in connection with the legal system, as part of its ongoing inquiry into Access to Justice.
