Conclusion
The Government needs to clarify the role it sees for hydrogen on the future energy system assuming its target is met, with an indication of how the clean hydrogen produced in 2030 will be used. It should bring forward the decision on whether hydrogen will be used in domestic heating from 2026—we advise against it. Hydrogen use should also be ruled out in locations and for applications that would be prohibitively expensive or without supporting infrastructure.
