Recommendation
Mandatory reporting, which would require employers to publish data about the number of disabled people they employ, could be a highly effective way of holding employers to account and driving forward progress on closing the disability employment gap. This data will only be accurate if employees feel comfortable disclosing their disability or health condition to their employer. Scrutiny of the published data is likely to act as an incentive to employers to create an environment in which people feel able to make those disclosures. We recommend that the Government should require larger employers (those with 250+ employees) to publish data on the proportion of their employees who are disabled.

HM Government Acknowledged
The Department is assessing the effectiveness of the Work and Health Programme, including the delivery of the Work and Health Programme by our Local Government Partners, London and Manchester combined authorities. This will help inform our future decisions on the design of future support and how it might best be delivered. In the National Disability Strategy, we committed to fund a Local Supported Employment (LSE) service, working with approximately 20 Local Authorities across GB, building on evidence from the Proof of Concept.
