As part of the connections framework overseen by Ofgem, DNOs require payments from connection customers upfront, in advance of the connection being made. This protects electricity billpayers who would otherwise be liable for the costs incurred by the DNO should the connection customer abandon the project. However, within this framework DNOs do allow connection customers to pay by instalments, where appropriate.
