Longer term, the ONS must still evolve to address the pressures it faces, including the need to make greater use of administrative data, the difficulties of relying on traditional surveys, demands for new data in policy responses, and the impact of AI. The organisation will need to demonstrate how it builds from addressing its short-term problems to consider the challenges ahead, showing realistic ambition in seizing the opportunities of the future.
