Accept. Defra is commissioning a comprehensive review of the current landscape of biodiversity data, with a view to improving efficiency, effectiveness, and interoperability of the data and systems involved. This will consider existing good practice across the UK and will also look at opportunities for greater digitisation of data collection processes. The review will be commissioned shortly. The review will cover a range of data, from broad-scale monitoring to site-specific condition assessments, and will consider key opportunities arising from new technologies. We expect to begin to implement some of the recommendations within 2022/23, with a longer-term plan to develop a more integrated and digital system to monitor the state of biodiversity. We recognise that the digital transformation of biodiversity data will be a long-term journey, requiring investment and careful management of transition from current systems. We will also engage with partners across the UK and internationally to ensure the benefits of this work are maximised.
