Full decision

Mrs C complained about the care and treatment she received from Public Health Wales (‘PHW’). Specifically, whether it was clinically appropriate that she did not receive a cancer diagnosis as a result of a mammogram in December 2022 and following tests and investigations on 26 January 2023.

The investigation found that the abnormality detected on a mammogram undertaken by Breast Test Wales (‘BTW’ – a PHW screening programme for women aged 50 to 70 living in Wales who are invited for screening every 3 years) on 12 December 2022 was subtle. The clinical interpretation of this mammogram and the investigations undertaken at a subsequent clinical appointment on 26 January 2023 were all clinically appropriate and in line with national policy and guidance. The complaint was not upheld.
