Embed guidance on confidentiality and carers into relevant operating procedures NHS A must ensure that mental health staff have a clear understanding about their responsibility to listen to and involve families and carers. This guidance should be embedded in their service operating procedures and supported by supervision and training. Mental health staff should receive training in confidentiality, in keeping with legal duties and guiding principles. Training should include consideration about how and when it may be appropriate to meet with families where there is no or only partial consent.
