Eddington Transport Study

The Eddington Transport Study: The Case for Action
Completed
Sir Rod Eddington · Published 1 December 2006 · Commissioned by HM Treasury

Study examining the relationship between transport and UK economic productivity, recommending a prioritised approach to transport investment focused on urban areas, inter-urban corridors and international gateways to support economic growth.

Government Response

The Eddington Transport Study was advisory (Sir Rod Eddington's 'case for action' to Government, making no numbered recommendations to which a point-by-point reply was required). The Government's formal response was the white paper 'Towards a Sustainable Transport System: Supporting Economic Growth in a Low Carbon World' (Cm 7226), presented to Parliament by the Secretary of State for Transport in October 2007. It describes how the Government is responding to recommendations made in the Eddington study to improve transport's contribution to economic growth, and sets out the Department for Transport's policy and investment approach to 2013-14 building on the Eddington model.
