1. To enable people to have choice in the food they eat the provider should ensure people prescribed altered/textured diets are offered choices of meals and snacks. This is to ensure that care and support is consistent with the Health and Social Care Standards (HSCS) which state that: "I can choose suitably presented and healthy meals and snacks, including fresh fruit and vegetables, and participate in menu planning" (HSCS 1.33)
2. To ensure people’s wellbeing and to comply with best practice for managing returned medication the provider should: a) Establish written procedures for identifying, documenting, and returning unused, expired, or discontinued medications to the pharmacy. b) To support audit trails and accountability, log all returned medications with details including the person’s name, medication name, reason for return, and date timeously. c) Provide training for all staff involved in medication handling on the returns medication protocols to ensure their understanding and implementation of the correct procedures. This is to ensure that care and support is consistent with the Health and Social Care Standards (HSCS) which state that: "My care and support meets my needs and is right for me" (HSCS 1.19) and "I have confidence in people because they are trained, competent and skilled, are able to reflect on their practice and follow their professional1. To ensure medication storage is safe and meets compliance with best practice guidance, the provider should: a) Ensure medication storage areas are established and maintained in full compliance with regulatory requirements to support safe practice and accountability. This is to ensure that care and support is consistent with the Health and Social Care Standards (HSCS) which state that: "The premises have been adapted, equipped and furnished to meet my needs and wishes" (HSCS 5.16) and "My environment is safe and secure" (HSCS 5.17).
