1. By 13 July 2026, to ensure the safety and high-quality outcomes for children, the provider must ensure staff deployment and staffing levels take account of the skills mix, routines, and daily activities. To do this, the provider must, at a minimum: a) arrangements for absence, whether planned or unplanned, are managed to support minimum disruption to children’s routines b) adequate staffing and effective deployment of staff must be managed well to ensure children have positive experiences c) effective systems are implemented to monitor and support staff practice and ensure that staff have opportunities to reflect on their practice and discuss improvements. This is to comply with section 7(1)(a) of the Health and Care (Staffing)(Scotland) Act 2019. This is to ensure that care and support is consistent with the Health and Social Care Standards (HSCS) which state that: ‘My needs are met by the right number of people’ (HSCS 3.15) and ‘People have time to support and c2. By 13 July 2026, to ensure children are kept safe by adults who care for them, the provider must ensure all current and newly recruited staff have undergone appropriate employment checks, prior to starting their employment. To do this, the provider must, at a minimum : a) ensure appropriate references have been gathered and reviewed for individual staff b) all staff have appropriate disclosure checks carried out c) effective induction processes support staff with their roles and responsibilities d) a system is in place to support the manager with tracking staffing recruitment information. This is to comply with section 7(1)(a) of the1. By 03 July 2026, to ensure children are protected from harm, unable to leave the premises and unauthorised persons are unable to access the children’s play spaces, the provider must ensure access to these areas are secure at all times. To do this, the provider must, at a minimum: a) ensure doors accessing children’s spaces are made secure and these systems are used while children attend the service b) ensure staff are aware of other individuals who are accessing the building c) ensure appropriate risks have been assessed and mitigations have been put in place. This is to comply with Regulation 4(1)(a) (Welfare of users) of The Social Care and Social Work and Improvement Scotland (Requirements for Care Services) Regulations 2011 (SSI 2011/2010). This is to ensure that care and support is consistent with the Health and Social Care Standards (HSCS), which state that: ‘My environment is secure and safe’ (HSCS 2.17).
1. To support children’s learning, development and experiences, the provider should ensure robust quality assurance systems are in place. This should include, but is not limited to: ensure effective and robust risk assessments are in place to support staff with keeping children safe while the use the service ensure appropriate policies are in place to support staff ensure effective auditing systems are in place ensure personal plans reviews take place with families. This is to ensure that care and support is consistent with the Health and Social Care Standards (HSCS) which states that: ‘My personal plan (sometimes referred to as a care plan) is right for me because it sets out how my needs will be met, as well as my wishes and choices’ (HSCS 1.15) and ‘I use a service and organisation that are well led and managed’ (HSCS 4.23).
1. To protect children’s health and wellbeing and to minimise the potential spread of infection, the provider should ensure that Infection Prevention and Control measures are improved within the toilet area. This is to ensure that care and support is consistent with the Health and Social Care Standards (HSCS), which states that: ‘I experience an environment that is well looked after with clean, tidy and well-maintained premises, furnishings and equipment’ (HSCS 5.22).
1. To ensure children are effectively supported by staff who have the right skills and knowledge to provide high quality care, play and learning experiences. This should include, but is not limited to: a) review the skills mix of staff across the setting b) monitor and review staff practice and provide appropriate training to help develop individual staff practice c) ensure resources available to children excite and engage them while they play. This is to ensure that care and support is consistent with the Health and Social Care Standards (HSCS), which state that: 'I have confidence in people because they are trained, competent and skilled, are able to reflect on their practice and follow their professional and organisational codes' (HSCS 3.14).
1. To ensure children are kept safe during mealtime, the provider should ensure appropriate furniture and routines are in place. This should include, but is not limited to: Ensure children have areas to sit while they have their meals Ensure children have healthy meals options in line with current guidance Ensure staff support children during their mealtimes in a relaxed environment Ensure children have opportunities to develop their independence skills. This is to ensure that care and support is consistent with the Health and Social Care Standards (HSCS) which states that: ‘I can enjoy unhurried snack and mealtimes in as relaxed an atmosphere as possible’ (HSCS 1.35).
Conditions of registration
To provide a care service to a maximum of 20 children at one time of an age to attend primary school.
Adult:child ratios will be a minimum of:
3 years and over - 1:8 if the children attend more than 4 hours per day or 1:10 if the children attend for less than 4 hours per day or if all children are over 8 years.
Full day childcare will not be provided.
