Recommendation 1

1. To ensure the continued safety and welfare of the children, the manager should review policies, procedures and risk assessments of medication to ensure they include when children are self-administering medication in the service. The manager should carry out regular quality assurance checks to ensure practice aligns with care inspectorate best practice guidance, ‘Management of medication in daycare of children and childminding services' (2025) to maintain safe and effective practice. This is to ensure that care and support is consistent with the Health and Social Care Standards (HSCS) which state that: ‘I experience high quality care and support based on relevant evidence, guidance and best practice’ (HSCS 4.11).
